The birth of Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, often simply referred to as “Amakhosi,” was founded on January 7, 1970. The club’s inception can be attributed to the vision and passion of one man: Kaizer Motaung.

Kaizer Motaung, a talented South African footballer who had played for the Atlanta Chiefs in the North American Soccer League, returned home with a dream of establishing a football club that would not only compete at the highest level but also inspire and unite the people of South Africa.

The club was named after its founder, Kaizer Motaung, and the Atlanta Chiefs, the team he had played for in the United States. The club’s iconic emblem features a Native American chief’s headdress, honoring the American team’s influence on its creation.
