Kaizer Chiefs now have a surplus of central midfield options at their disposal. How will coach Ntseki keep Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo happy?
KAIZER CHIEFS MIDFIELD RICHES
With Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo the regular pairing so far this season, Molefi Ntseki has lacked a specialist number 6. Now, with Sibongiseni Mthethwa in the building, he has his man. Ntseki now has options. He could play three in the centre of the park and forego an attacker, or he could be more positive and choose one partner for Mthethwa at the base. Which one of Maart and Castillo best complements The Ox’s skills? The tricky thing about that is this: Maart and Castillo are quite similar in profile.
CASTILLO BRINGS MORE TO THE PARTY
Venezuelan midfield schemer Edson Castilo has become an instant favourite with the Amakhosi faithful. He’s got a knack for scoring crucial goals and a vast array of skills making him a complete-package player. Yusuf Maart, similarly, is neither a specialist 6, 4 nor 10, but rather an all-rounder. It therefore boils down to a straight decision between the two as to who will partner Mthethwa in a 4-2-3-1.
MAART MIGHT EAT BENCH FOR NOW
So, back to the initial question about whether Maart and Mthethwa can be selected on the same side. Yes, perhaps, against certain opposition. However, if Chiefs want to maximise the skills at their disposal, Mthethwa needs to operate alongside the best possible option and for now, that person is Edson Castillo.
