Kaizer Chiefs remain South Africa’s most decorated club overall despite a number of years firmly in the shadow of Mamelodi Sundowns.
Sundowns hold a big lead in terms of top-flight title wins the the PSL-era and are a couple wins ahead in the overall league wins stakes but they aren’t really close to passing Chiefs overall trophy haul.

KAIZER CHIEFS ARE SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST DECORATED CLUB
Kaizer Chiefs last lifted a trophy all the way back in 2015 which makes their historic silverware haul that much more impressive.
Kaizer Chiefs have won the PSL title four times. They were crowned Premiership champions in the 2003/4, 2004/5, 2012/13, 2014/15 seasons. Their 2015 triumph under Stuart Baxter remains their last piece of silverware picked up.
During the National Soccer League era (from 1985 to 1996) Kaizer Chiefs were champions of the league on four more instances.
They also hold four titles in the old National Professional Soccer League but it is in the cup competitions that they have gathered the most silverware.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CUPS
While Sundowns have continental success to brag about, Chiefs have achieved unprecedented levels of success in domestic cup competitions.

Kaizer Chiefs have won South Africa’s top cup competition more times than anybody else.
The competition, which is now known as the Nedbank Cup, has gone by six different titles, and Kaizer Chiefs has triumphed under each one.
Chiefs also won the first two editions of the cup when it was known as the Life Challenge Cup, they were also champions in both seasons that it was known as the Benson and Hedges Trophy.

During the time of the Mainstay Cup the trophy was lifted five times with three coaches at the helm in Mario Tuani, Eliakim Khumalo and Ted Dumitru.
They only won the Bob Save Super Bowl twice and won the tournament once under both the ABSA Cup umbrella and in its current guise as the Nedbank Cup.
SUCCESS THROUGH THE DECADES
Between 1982 and 2015 Kaizer Chiefs contested the League Cup final 17 times. They won the trophy on a record 13 occasions.
They won that tournament under each of its names except during the time it was known as the Coca-Cola Cup. Between 1992 and 1996 their best effort was reaching the 1992 final only to lose to Amazulu.
Finally Kaizer Chiefs also have a record number of Top 8 trophies in their massive cabinet having won the event 15 times between 1974 and 2014.
The club have also won numerous friendly cup trophies but to be honest they aren’t worth counting.
Amakhosi’s single continental success came in the 2001 African Cup Winners’ Cup.
