Kaizer Chiefs Commercial and Marketing Director Jessica Motaung has urged fans to be kinder on social media as there is often more going on than they realise.

Speaking to Marawa Sports Worldwide, Motaung also called out social media trolls.

Motaung says she appreciates the passion of fans but feels that social media heat can be a little too intense at times.

Fans get heated because they love the club but the abuse still stings according to Motaung.

“I love the passion but I think people sometimes must be kind in the way that they engage, it’s easier on social media, you’re faceless,” Kaizer Chiefs Commercial and Marketing Director told Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“You have to understand that sometimes there are issues that come up and people don’t understand. I find it a lot of the time that supporters can be quite nasty in the way that they express their frustration or passion.

“And let’s understand, Chiefs have been in many finals, let’s not discount (that). How many finals have we been in? It’s not that the club is just not doing well. I mean we lost the league with 13 minutes, we were leading (the whole season), 13 minutes after that the league went away from us,” she said.

Motaung’s plea comes as the club has come under fire for failing to sign Khanyiso Mayo.

“I understand the excitement and the desire for us to sign particular players but there are contexts. Players have contracts, when you’re looking to sign a particular player you may not be able to get him,” Motaung explained.

“Is the player available? Does he fit? Is he part of the plan? Look at Mayo for example, who wouldn’t have wanted Mayo? We did want him. His father (Patrick) played for Chiefs.

“But the team (Cape Town City) had their own plan, they decided they wanted to renew his contract or else sell him overseas and to say we’re not taking supporters seriously… we’re signing players, changes are made,” she went on to say.
