Having played much of last season in the centre of defence, Zitha Kwinika has been utilised at full-back by new Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki in the early stages of the season.

The athletic defender will be hoping to keep his place in the starting line-up when Amakhosi tackle SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, 20 September.

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30.

“I’m in good shape and happy to be getting minutes, which is boosting me in terms of confidence, fitness and readiness,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com.

“I have actually played the majority of my PSL games at right-back, probably for two seasons, so I am familiar with that position but I think it’s good to be adaptable and play a few positions, which is an advantage to being able to help the team when required.”

Coming off a goalless draw against Royal AM at the weekend, Kwinika and his team-mates are determined to collect all three points against Matsatsantsa.

“Playing against SuperSport United is a battle. They are often not pretty games. You can see their form so we know it’s going to be difficult. They are experienced and well organised, so we are preparing for that. As a team, we are gaining momentum and are looking to keep it going in the right direction,” he says.

“We are disappointed to only draw against Royal AM but Lady Luck wasn’t on our side. Against SuperSport we are going to have to bury our chances to get a good result.”

Kwinika firmly believes that the Amakhosi faithful’s patience will soon be rewarded, concluding, “We can always do better and we are working towards improving all the time. We are building and soon the results will come. We just want to make our supporters happy. As a group now, we know what is at stake. We owe it to ourselves and to the fans, as well as the Chairman and team management to make the improvements we need in order to be successful.”
