This is our Kaizer Chiefs signing of the day piece. Today we remember one of the club’s best ever number 10s.

KAIZER CHIEFS SIGNING OF THE DAY: STANTON FREDERICKS

Born in Johannesburg in 1978, Fredericks kick started his career at the now defuct Wits Univeristy in 1998. The player “Stiga,” did not stay long in the local scene before moving to Grasshoppers in Switzerland.

The central attacking midfielder/number 10 was back in Mzansi to join Amakhosi in 2001.

It was where formed a famous combination with Jabu “Pule” Mahlangu. The success included the 2001 African Cup Winners’ Cup, BP Top 8 and Coca Cola Cup (both in the 2001-2002 season) and the 2003-2004 Coca Cola Cup.

Fredericks soon moved back to Europe to join FC Moscow in Russia. He later moved to rivals Orlando Pirates, Pierikos (Greece) and finally Bidvest Wits before retiring in 2013.

His international career included two goals in 14 Bafana Bafana appearances.

Siseko Gwegwe is a long-suffering Bafana Bafana fan. The problem began at his parents' home in Khayelitsha in 1996 as Brazil came back from 2-0 to beat SA 3-2. He grew up in Cape Town reading his mom’s Drum magazines and his father’s Kick Off and City Press weeklies. Siseko spends summers at his second hometown, Middelburg in the Eastern Cape. After studying journalism at Varsity College, he worked at Soccer Laduma for over three years before going international with Futaa for two years. His experience includes news and entertainment reporting.
