Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove faces a possible dilemma following his surprise call-up to Mozambique Mambas’ squad.
The Chiefs versatile player is the Mambas’ notable inclusion in the squad for the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Benin.
The inclusion comes despite Chiefs not being able to feature Dove following his recent injury.

DOVE’S NOTABLE ABSENCE FROM AMAZULU GAME
Actually, Dove witnessed Chiefs’ first win in this DStv Premiership campaign from the terraces.
He was not in the playing squad for the Glamour Boys on August 26 2023 when they beat AmaZulu 3-0 at FNB Stadium.
It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old will make Chiefs’ roster for the August 30 meeting with Stellenbosch.

WHAT FIFA REGULATIONS SAY ON INJURED PLAYERS
Nonetheless, the FIFA regulations allow FAs to summon players injured while with their clubs for further assessment.
In that regard, Dove might fancy a free flight back to Maputo where the Mambas host Benin on September 9 2023.
The dreadlocked defender should hope that Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde won’t be tempted to feature him.
Dove’s name highlighted the squad which Conde announced on Monday in Maputo for the Group L AFCON qualifier.

WHAT MOZAMBIQUE COACH SAID AFTER NAMING SQUAD
Conde has since spelled out his mission for the AFCON game at Zimpeto Stadium.
He said he wants attacking football from the Mambas.
“It is an extremely delicate game and we need to be calm,” the coach told the Mozambique FA website.
“The hustle is great, but we need to be calm, despite playing at home. The idea is to be dominant at all times.
“We must face the game naturally and have fun without thinking too much about the result,” Conde added.
