What’s going on with Mduduzi Shabalala at Kaizer Chiefs?

ICYMI: Kaizer Chiefs welcome four faces back to Naturena

MDU OR DIE OUT IN THE COLD

Although he’s hardly been frozen out, Mduduzi Shabalala isn’t seeing nearly as much game time as he was last season. Rewind to the 2022-23 campaign and the youngster was a key member towards the back end of the campaign. This term he’s made just three appearances in the league, and hasn’t been called upon in MTN8 action so far, most recently as an unused substitute against Sundowns.

KAIZER CHIEFS LOOKING MORE STACKED IN ATTACKING AREAS

With the arrivals of Pule Mmodi, Jasond Gonzalez and Ranga Chivaviro, competition for places in the front three is intense. Christian Saile also offers an interesting skill set on the right-hand side. Mdu’s namesake Mduduzi Mdantsane is also a less direct competitor for his role as a number 10 behind the strikers. It’s still early days, and Shabalala might be a little annoyed at his lack of involvement, but the minutes will come.

Mduduzi Shabalal doesn’t have a point to prove in so much that his performances have been poor. Rather, the 19-year-old has shown supporters what he’s capable of and they’re demanding he reach and surpass those levels once more.
