Mamelodi Sundowns have reignited interest in this Kaizer Chiefs target. This comes shortly after Percy Tau was linked with them…
Sundowns look set to miss out on Tau.
However, they have reportedly renewed interest in Chiefs target Khanyisa Mayo.
SUNDOWNS REIGNITE INTEREST IN CHIEFS STRIKER TARGET
Cape Town City striker, Mayo, was previously being targeted by Sundowns and Chiefs.
However, talks quitted down with City keen to hold onto Mayo.
Now, Sundowns are set to reignite their interests in Mayo as they look to sign another striker. Rhulani Mokwena and The Brazilians management have decided that they want to sign an extra striker. This is because Abubeker Nasir has battled with injuries.
“The main reason they are hoping to land Mayo is the injury problem with one of their strikers in Nasir,” the insider confirmed on SoccerLaduma.
Sundowns management are concerned with Nasir’s injury struggles as they head into several huge competitions this season.
“He is struggling with injury and they feel even if he recovers they are not sure how long he can remain fit to help the team. They are looking at how many competitions they are involved in and they need as many fit players as they can have and they have been talking about Khanyisa (Mayo) again,” he added.
This comes shortly after The Brazilians realized they will not be able to lure Tau back to Chloorkop.
DEPTH KEY FOR MOKWENA AND THE BRAZILIANS THIS SEASON
Sundowns will be competing in the the Super League. Furthermore, they want to win the CAF Champions League whilst defending their PSL title and trying to win back the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies.
Therefore, squad depth is key to their ambitions this season. They need to rest players and have quality stars stepping up to compete across all of these competitions with injuries and suspension inevitable in sport.
